INIKA Cosmetics Samples Update!

INIKA is a luxury organic cosmetic brand and I have had my eye on for a while.

In particular their primer, foundation & concealer, as so far these three items in my 'natural make up mission' have been the most unsuccessful to find a natural alternative for that I like and works for me and are the right shade of pale!
These are all expensive products and I don't have a shop that sells the brand nearby where I live so it  would have to be a on line purchase.
I decided that I needed to acquire samples first as I wasn't prepared to just buy them 'blind' as they could potentially be a very costly mistake and I've already had a few of those lately!
I thought it would be easy to get a small sample of them directly from INIKA themselves, however their website only showed the foundation as being available as samples and they were 'out of stock'.  I did email INIKA directly to ask about samples of the primer & concealer but am, 2 weeks later still awaiting a reply!
So my search for samples continued without any luck, and I was beginning to think that I would never get my hands on any when I came across a company called Content Beauty & Wellbeing, they have a on line store and a retail shop in London.
They offer a sampling service ~ For £3.00 you can choose 4 samples of anything they stock, there are some products exclusions and it's limited to one set of samples per customer so please check here before ordering!
I think this is a excellent service and only wish more companies would do it!
My samples were
INIKA Certified Organic Pure Primer
INIKA Certified Organic Liquid Mineral Foundation ~ Shade Cream
INIKA Perfection Liquid Concealer ~ Shade Light
OSKIA Perfect Cleanser ~ Just to make up the fourth item
The samples arrived in little pots labelled up clearly what they were.  They do only contain a small amount but it's enough to see if the if the colour shades will match your skin and to have a trial application.

The INIKA Certified Organic Primer is full of lovely botanicals such as Macadamia oil Shea Butter Apricot & Avocado Oil to soothe, protect and moisturise the skin prior to make up application and provides a even canvas and helps extend the life of your foundation.
I applied this primer after my normal skincare.
It is a thick white gel/cream and smells lovely, very botanical.  It blends over the skin very well but does feel slightly sticky on application.  I left the primer to settle for about a minute and the stickiness did dissipate and my skin felt nice ~ smooth and soft.

I really liked this primer, it was good to know I was applying lovely botanical ingredients to my skin instead of the cocktail of chemicals that is in my current Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.
My INIKA foundation did last all day over this primer, my forehead did start to get  a little oily by lunch time but this is usual.  I wouldn't say this primer is mattyfying though so if you have very oily skin I don't think you will like it.
Mature, dry or mildly combination skin would suit this primer best.
So far this is the best natural primer I have used and I will be buying it in the full size once I have used up my conventional primers.
INIKA Certified Organic Pure Primer is £29.50 for 50ml.
~ Ingredients ~

Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*; Glycerin; Cetearyl Olivate; Sorbitan Olivate; Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*; Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*; Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*; Cetearyl Alcohol; Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E); Aqua; Hydroxyethyl Cellulose; Potassium Sorbate; Lactic Acid; Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot Bergaptene Free) Fruit Oil; Backhousia Citriodora (Lemon Myrtle) Leaf Oil*; Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil*. *Certified Organic

The INIKA Liquid Mineral Foundation in Cream was a really good match for my skin colour and I initially thought this small amount wouldn't be enough for even one application but I got two days out of this so I was pleased with that!
The foundation is oil free and is full of botanicals and mineral pigments.
I applied it straight over INIKA's primer.
It did apply OK but it was different to my other non natural foundations being quite 'dry and thick' in texture.
It did blend out okish, but I had to really pull my skin to get it to blend, it just didn't slide over like a normal foundation would.  I assume this is because it is oil free and  minus all the chemical ingredients that are in conventional foundations that make it 'glide'.
As I've said, it did blend but required more work to get it there and you needed to work a bit more quickly as it dried fairly fast.
On me this gave light coverage only, I applied two thin layers of it but it didn't really build up any more coverage than 'light'.
My skin is pretty good a the moment and I only had one very small pimple above my lip, so this was enough coverage for me, but I still needed to go in with concealer under my eyes and around my nose and on the pimple, as it wasn't enough to cover over those areas.
I was happy with the end result though ~ my skin still looked like skin, and felt comfortable.  The foundation gave a fresh healthy look with a slightly dewy glow.
I did like this foundation ~ it does take more blending and only gives light coverage but it is the best natural liquid foundation I've tried, up to now,  that matches my pale skin.
I will be purchasing it in the full size when I have made more of a dent in my collection of conventional foundations.
I do still need to seek out a natural liquid foundation that will give medium coverage though !

INIKA Certified Organic Liquid Mineral Foundation is £29.50 for 30ml

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Aqua ( Water), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed butter*, Oleyl Oleate, Rosa Eglentaria Seed ( Rosehip) Oil*, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Cananga Odorata Flower ( Ylang Ylang) Oil*, Pelargonium Roseum Leaf Oil*,, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*, Cymbopogon Martini Oil*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil*,, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed ( Tamanu )Oil *, Calendula Officinalis Flower*, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit ( Kakadu Plum) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Glyceryl Caprylate, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Alcohol, p-Anisic Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate. * Certified Organic
INIKA Certified Organic Perfection Liquid Concealer in Light unfortunately was too dark and too yellow based for me so I couldn't use it.
One thing I did notice was it was very watery, I tried it on the back of my hand and it didn't provide much coverage and dried quite cakey.
I know this was only a small test on my hand but my first impressions were I didn't like it.
Of course I won't be buying this full size as the 'light' is the fairest shade but still to dark.
The concealer is a blend of botanical and mineral pigments.

This is my finished look from the INIKA Primer and Foundation, of course am wearing other products are well!
This photo is from my Face of the Day post so if you want to see what I used exactly then take a look  here
INIKA is an Australian brand,  their products are not tested on animals,  suitable for vegans, certified organic by the Australian Organic Food Chain and free from parabens, petrochmicals and a whole host of other nasty chemicals ~ a full list of which can be found here
My first impressions of INIKA as a brand are good, I didn't like the concealer but I don't like every product from every conventional make up brand either.
I will definitely be looking at their other products as well and have my eye on their eye make up remover as a replacement for Liz Earle's Eye Bright,  although this has nice botanicals in it still uses parabens which I would prefer to cut out if possible.
INIKA Cosmetics can be bought directly from INIKA here or they are slightly cheaper from here

  1. I don't understand why most brands don't offer samples, it's the smart thing to do especially if the products aren't easy to find/test out on the highstreet.

They look lovely on you're skin, love the sound of the primer.

    1. Thanks!xx The primer is lovely!
I absolutly agree, I don't mind paying a few pounds for them! I think if you live in or around London then there are plenty of shops that do sell the natural make up brands and a odd one dotted around the country but most of us have to go online!
      Jen xxx

    2. Definitely! I'm in N.Ire so most of my natural purchases are made online.

  2. I love being able to try before you buy and Content beauty is lovely! I tend to pick up samples from Love Lula, Naturisimo and have had some from Cosmetics a la Carte before x

    1. It does look a lovely site sells a lot of goodies I like the look of lol!

  3. I love the Inika primer it is one of my favourite products but I only ever use it under mineral foundation. I have seen other reviews on the inika concealer and wasnt impressed, I didn't know that this boutique offers this service but like you said I wish more places would do it! x

    1. Thanks chick :-) I have got a bit of primer left so I am going to try it under my bourjois foundation tomorrow for work and see how it goes it would be perfect if I could use this under non natural foundations as well until I've got through them all ! Xxx

  4. I've only ever used an Inika eyeliner before and really liked it, but like you say it's rare to find that you like everything from every brand 100%. I always find concealer is such a hit or miss though, 'light' just doesn't seem to be generic..! I think samples are a fab idea as, like you, I want to make sure I like something before dishing out for bigger sizes!! Great post :) xxx

  5. I totally agree 'light' is usually not light enough for me in a lot of brands :-(

  6. I am so thrilled that I clicked on your website and found your article on free cosmetic samples. I gave being surfing the Web for the last week in search of free samples for Suki and Inika. I already love the Suki tinted active moisturiser in Natural but it's so expensive and I also wanted to try the lighter shade and new cream concealer. I have just ordered my samples from! Many thanks, I will now be subscribing to your website for regular updates.
