REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

I've always been a big fan of REN as a brand and use several of their products already, however the full size of this mask is £30 and I'm always a bit mean when it comes to masks and prefer to spend the majority of my beauty budget on the basics, cleanse, tone, exfoliate, moisturise, then oils & serums, masks always come last!

So when I received this mask as part of a freebie set I was very keen to try it out!

REN describe the mask as a 'bio active peel mask to renew the complexion & reduce the appearance of fine lines & improve skin tone'

The mask uses natural fruit extracts & acids to 'nibble' away at the dead skin cells, essentially exfoliating your skin without you having to do any of the massaging with a traditional particle based cream.

~ Ingredients ~

Polysorbate 60, Glycerin, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Leaf Extract, Lecithin, Lactic Acid, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Passiflora Quadrangularis Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Alcohol Denat., Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Maltodextrin, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Parfum (Fragrance), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Flower Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Tocopherol.

So how did my first time go?...............

Well I have to admit the jury was very much 'out' after I'd used it initially!

It is quite a thick,  slightly sticky gel, that does smell rather divine, of fresh oranges!
It does need to be applied in quite a thickish layer, I used it on both my face & neck and left it on for the allotted 10 minutes.

During the time the mask was on I did experience some tingling, especially above my upper lip, it lasted for the first 5 mins or so then subsided.... this was the first thing I wasn't all that keen on.  After the 10 mins was up and I'd wiped off the mask with a flannel, my face did seem rather patchy and red, second thing I wasn't keen on!.........my neck however seemed to have fared much better and was a normal colour.

On the plus side my skin did feel incredibly smooth and soft and after half an hour my skin had returned to a normal colour and I applied the rest of my skincare and my make up.

I did find that my foundation went on very well and I had to use a little bit less of it to get the look I like.  Overall, my make up looked more perfected and I can only put this down to the mask making my skin's surface so much smoother, as nothing else had changed.

The following day though is really when I saw a change in my skin, it still felt beautifully soft and smooth, but the clarity and tone was also significantly improved and more even, it really took me quite by surprise, as up to now I had written this mask off as being 'not for me'!

I will say my skin used to be sensitive until I changed my skincare, a good few years ago now, to more naturally based products with less or no synthetic chemicals, preservatives etc, but it has been well behaved pretty much all the time, sensitivity wise since then, however REN do say this product is not suitable for sensitive skin, so maybe it was just too much for my skin and this is why the redness occurred. REN also do state that a tingling sensation may be experienced.

I am still in two minds as to whether I would purchase a full size of this, as I don't really like the tingling or redness but I can't deny it did improve my skin..........hhmmmm it's a tough one!
I think I would use it again certainly, but not right before any special occasions because of the redness.
For me, I will try and get it free in the sample sizes where I can - REN offer 2 free sample sizes of around 5ml with every order from the directly and often give away nice freebie sets too so it is possible to acquire this mask without actually parting with any money!

In conclusion it's definitely worth giving this mask a try, but I'd get a sample of it first before parting with your £30!

REN can be bought directly from their own website here or if you live near one of the larger Marks & Spencer stores their Beauty Dept now stock REN too, which I am personally so pleased to see a great natural British brand, like REN, available on the high street.

Have you tried this mask?

I'd love to know how it worked on your skin?

Till next time my lovelies
Jenny xx

  1. I used to use this until I had a masterclass with David from REN and he told me to use the F10 mask, it works on the same principles but you don't get the tingling and it is £10 cheaper, I never find it makes me blotchy and it's great I always leave it on longer than 10 minutes but it works really well. 2. I bought the F10 mask as I have sensitive skin but had a few samples of this one. They both work almost exactly the same but tge results from the F10 don't last just as long.
